About Six Degrees of Sound

Seasoned vocal diversity with style and fun

Six Degrees of Sound is a singing group whose six members found each other through local connections in the Bayside area of Melbourne.

Because we all come from varied backgrounds and experiences our musical tastes and styles are wide-ranging. This makes us ideal entertainment as we can offer quality vocal music suitable for birthdays, corporate and private parties and events, weddings, funerals, support acts, commercial venues and music festivals.

Sophisticated and entertaining...

Although we may be of a different generation to other similar groups, we manage to combine both a niche polished refinement with a sense of fun. And our target audience come from those who appreciate the diversity of repertoire that having plenty of life experience brings.

Our strength comes from our love of interesting harmonies, our musical capabilities and our connection to each other.

Audiences will be treated to our arrangements of familiar favourites as well as a unique collection of original songs.

Perfect blend of sound...

Each member of Six Degrees of Sound brings their own personal, musical and life experience to the group. Like our personalities, our unique vocal qualities blend together creating a sound that entertains in any setting.

Our Members

Andrea French

Founding member and Musical Director

Andrea

Having lived both in Australia and overseas, Andrea has a long history of working in vocal performance as well as education, arranging and composition. A specialist in Keys as well as vocals she arranges, accompanies and manages our sound to bring out the best in us. Andrea loves to arrange and compose music using interesting, colourful harmonies that bring out the unique quality of each voice part. Her original arrangements vary from St Francis Prayer to Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Doug Clark

Anchored in Soul

Doug

Regulator by day and beat-boxer by night, Doug has a voice that blends beautifully with all parts. While dabbling in the occasional lyric, he is enjoying his time in the rhythm section giving us a warm and mellow bass baritone foundation. Soulful and laid-back, his vocal percussion adds another dimension to the group. Like Tony, Doug is also part of Men in Suits.

Jenn Biggs

Star of Theatre and Cabaret

Jenn

Jenn has many years of experience performing in local musical theatre, she has been a part of two Melbourne International Comedy Festivals and has also written and performed two cabaret shows. She has sung in bands, duos, trios and choirs and loves being part of Six Degrees of Sound which gives her the opportunity to use her theatrical expression in challenging vocal settings.

Steve Gardner

Weird Tales of a Tenor

Steve

Steve was born on a nuclear submarine in international waters. This seems to have affected his taste in music - no-one can figure out where he’s coming from. But if you leave a 6DOS performance thinking, “I never thought I’d hear those songs performed together.” then Steve will be happy.

Lisa Engel

Tones of the Blues

Lisa

As a psychologist, Lisa’s day job involves listening to others’ stories. In Six Degrees of Sound she becomes the story-teller, using the lyrics of life and the language of music. Lisa has a a deep alto voice that lends itself to the Blues, a genre of music that she has performed many solo concerts and written original songs, especially about life’s struggles. Lisa loves the capacity for words to connect us to each other and to express the human condition.

Tony Brand

Pop Magic

Tony

Tony comes from a family of vocalists and is in his happy place when he is singing, especially pop classics. A natural at harmonising, he fills in the blend with dulcet tones and subtle colours. He is also a member of the amazing Melbourne male vocal group - Men in Suits - and he is used to performing pretty much anywhere.
